The Maryland State Boychoir

The internationally renowned Maryland State Boychoir will be performing in concert as part of the fourth Annual Festival of Trees on Friday, November 30, at the Faith Chapel Auditorium (formerly the Colonial Theatre) in downtown Hagerstown.  This will be the choir’s third appearance at the Festival.

Founded in 1987, the mission of the Boychoir has remained clear: to foster the boychoir tradition by offering talented boys the opportunity to sing and build self-esteem, self-discipline, and character.

Today, The Maryland State Boychoir (MSB), Maryland’s “Official Goodwill Ambassadors,” is comprised of approximately 140 choristers, ages seven to twenty, who represent a wide range of ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds.  They come from nine Maryland counties, Baltimore City, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

The MSB performs sixty times each year throughout Maryland and in more than thirty states in the mid-Atlantic, southeast, midwest and southwest regions of the United States.  International tours have taken the choir to Ireland, Wales, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, and Canada.  They have performed at the White House, Kennedy Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and at such special events as the PGA President’s Cup.  They perform a broad repertoire of traditional Renaissance, contemporary gospel, traditional American songs, and holiday favorites.

The choir has produced five recordings, including the Christmas CD, “What Sweeter Music,” which was broadcast nationally on National Public Radio.  They have also been featured several times on Maryland Public Television.

Don’t miss this concert!  A special treat will be the addition of local guest choirs (to be announced later) to the evening.  The combined choirs will truly fill your hearts with joy as you prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

Admission to the concert is $10 per adult, $5.00 per child between the ages of three and twelve. Admission to the concert also includes admission to the Tree Exhibit at Robinwood Medical Center.

The Faith Chapel Auditorium is located at 14 S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, Md.  For directions and parking information, visit www.bridgeoflife.org.
